Developing Orchid Endlers With Very Long Swords:
Looking at images of Endlers from AdrianHD we noticed that extra long swords or swordtails were found in the original wild population.
The majority of the caudal fins on Endlers are mostly clear, the sword that appears on most Endlers is not a true sword but a coloration that makes it appear to be a sword.
Occasionally an Endler may grow a sword that extends past the caudal fin.
We have been working for quite some time now trying to develop a strain of Endler that has a very long sword on it’s tail. We are happy to share with you the results of our efforts so far.
We have seen other Endler’s with long swords however the majority of the ones we have seen appear to be hybrids rather than pure strain Endlers.
If you look closely at our Endlers we have produced you will see that they have maintained the thin sword that is typical of an N Class Orchid Endler. Most of the images of Endlers with swords look much more like the swords that have been influenced by a guppy.
Below are some images of more of our Orchid Endlers with very long swords.
We have noticed that traditional line breeding of the males does not seem to work to produce more males with extra long swords. In fact traditional line breeding of these males seems to produce males that have very short swords.
