After working for quite some time to produce stable strain that of Extra Long Sword Orchid Endlers we have decided to abandon our efforts for now.
For a time we were able to produce quite a few of these beautiful looking males however line breeding these males did not seem to produce the results we were looking for.
The longer we worked on the project the shorter the sword seemed to get. This was not immediately apparent as the sword must be given time to grow as the Endler matures.
Unfortunately breeding for sword length seems to be much more difficult than breeding for color.
This would be a great project for someone that has much more room than we do for many more tanks.
what are you going to do with the endlers you are abandoning?
That’s a great question. We aren’t actually abandoning our Endlers that we have been breeding. We are just discontinuing the line breeding process to try to get a stable strain of these beautiful Endlers.
These Endlers have simply been “retired” to their own tank to do what Endlers will do. If they happen to produce offspring in the future that are what we are looking for we may resume the process.
The biggest issue is that we simply don’t have the room to dedicate several tanks to the process after not seeing any real progress for several months.
We have limited space so we have must dedicate that space and tanks to the strains that appear to be the most promising for the future.
Although we are abandoning our efforts to line breed the Long Sword Orchid Endler at this time that does not mean that we won’t continue the process at a later date if the fish we already have start showing signs of success.
I have one!! Very long sword
In Spain btw coincidentally not a breeder
